I am trying to forget those fires. Even though they were a long way from here my dreams were still haunted with their screams.

Gidday all,
I surround myself with animals whenever possible and have a menagerie of guests that share thier lives with me. At the moment I have; My wonderful familiar, a Jack Russell fox terrier who I could not live without. (literally, I have health problems and he alerts me to them when needed. Without him I would have been in a coma several times),
4 Bearded Dragons, 2 Eastern Water Dragons, 2 Gippsland Water Dragons, 2 Cunninghams Skinks, 2 Stumpy Tail or Shingle back lizards, 1 Eastern Long Neck Turtle, 1 Galah, goat, horse (pony) 1/2 dozen geese and about 10 chooks. (and about 100 spiders that have decided to move inside at the moment!) I volunteer for the local wildlife rescue and my busy time of Spring/Summer are fast approaching and undoubtedly there will be more added to this list shortly. (hopefully they can be released again before to long).
Are their any other wildlife rescuers on here?

Blessed Be

Hi All,

I would like to introduce myself, I am new to this group.

I share my home with 4 ferrets and a black domestic short hair cat, they are magnificent familiars. I also have regular visitors to my back door, a family of currawongs and a family of magpies.

The totem for my people the Ngarigo Monaro is the Bogong Moth however every animal has a specific totemic element to my people as my Grandmother taught me and she called me an “Animal Talker” as I’ve always formed a unique connection to animals.

Pleasure to meet you all and I look forward to chatting to you!

I haven't actually left the chair out - don't have a dining table, only a picnic table on the back decking. I used to put Lasa's food and water on that table so that the winged-demon couldn't eat it. Came home from work one day to see Lilith standing on top of the table watching me open the front door (I have glass doors and windows everywhere) - I had wondered why Lasa felt thinner and always seemed hungry - no idea Lil could get up there, she was only six months old and not that big (Boston Terrier) - I later watched her get up and she used the arm of the chair to brace herself and wriggled into the chair (under the table top) she still gets on THOSE chairs that way, even though she can just 'spring' into them (springs onto every other chair in the house except those on the deck - go figure!!!) - Lasa's food is now on top of the freezer - the only way Lilith can get to the food now is for her to use those 'wings' - suspect I'm tempting fate by saying that LOL

Hmmm..... must seriously consider investing in a mobile phone. Went to drumming yesterday afternoon - just me, myself and I showed up (upon my return home found message on my answering machine about cancellation), knowing this before time could have saved time. Anyway, upon arrival home I was treated to the usual 'frenzied' welcome home greeting from the 'winged-demon' (Lilith), and whilst waiting for her to calm down before my greeting to her I looked around the lounge room - now it is usual for Lilith to trash the house while I'm gone (and I am sure Lasa has a hand in it as well - but she is always sitting unconcerningly preening herself when I get home) - Lilith seems to pick the same things to rearrange everytime - but this time there was an added bonus - toilet paper, toilet paper everywhere. Before leaving I always place the toilet roll on top of the cistern, along with the spare one, this time was no exception - seems the 'winged-demon' has learned that she can get up on the closed toilet seat (evidenced by the scratch marks on the lid) - (I also leave the bathroom door open so that they have access to a tiled floor, cooler place to be on hot days) - all I can say is she must have had a wonderful time running around the house with this. But, worse was to come, remember there was a second roll - going out onto the back deck I was greeted by a backyard festooned with tiolet paper, it was everywhere, wrapped around trees, vegetables and garden furniture - with Lil's help (you can imagine) it took me hours to pick up all the bits of paper, whilst the whole time being watched by the 'wasn't me' Queen of the house, Lasa. LOL

Hi Cass, Yes Zac said he is gonna make a run for him today. Can they still confiscate him if I tell them he is not a pit bull (eg ridgeback X staffy or something). As it turns out, I know where he is going now. He has been hanging out with the old girl dog two properties down the road. Yesterday he spent most of the day there and got treated like a king by the humans at the house, although they have said that they will try and ignore him from now on if he goes there so as not to encourage his roaming. Funnily enough, thats the same place that my pony went when she broke out too, there must be a good vibe there or something! Hopefully Zeus wont hate me too much for having him on a run, I kind of disagree with having a dog on a chain, but if it keeps him safe then so be it. Thanks to you all for your suggestions.

Is there any chance of you building a roomy 'pen' for him close to the house? To be honest Benny, I'm not too sure that desexing him will stop him from taking off on his own - I've had male Boxers who kept right on roaming after the operation - the only way to keep them home was to have a good strong fence around the property.
Hope someone comes up with a better solution for you, but......

Any advice on how I can stop my boy Zeus, a 6 month old pitbull, from wandering off the property. He has never done it before until this week. He still has his nads, so I think he may have just reached the age where he is interested in females. I really dont want to put him on a chain/tether/run, but now that he has done it a few times, I have found every opportunity that he gets when Im not watching him, he is gone. This is not just annoying, but also dangerous for him, people driving down our "no speed limit" rural road, and the vet has told me that he needs to be desexed as he is carrying a hereditary immune disorder , that will be past on if pups are produced. I have all intention of getting him desexed, but the vet would like to wait atleast a month for him to finish his antibiotics. He is an outside dog, so locking him up inside isnt an option. If I do put him on a chain, it only lasts 5 minutes as he cries and cries and I feel sorry for him so I let him off. I love my dog, but he is starting to become a bit of a pain in the bum. Wandering is really the only problem. He is GREAT with my kids and other animals, and he follows me from one window or door to the next as I move around inside the house. He is so friendly and fairly well mannered, I just cant seem to come up with a solution that works for us both. Any ideas??

The Saga Continues....

Well, the RSPCA Inspector came about an hour ago now. It took 10 minutes to wake BJ from his hidy-hole next door. They've taken him down to the vet.

Grant got home about 10 - 20 minutes after they left. He went off his nut. I told him if he hit me or got aggressive with me I would phone the police. Once again it was all my fault. He reckons he can get BJ back, but that isn't an option. He tried to phone the RSPCA office but they are shut for lunch, so he has gone down there.

Basically he has t… Continue

An Update of the Cat

I've managed to have a good look at BJ and the rubber band issue. It really does need to come off. He's a wriggler so I'm going to wrap him in my quilt and hold him down while I take it off. It's not done any damage that I can see.

I keep telling my housemate that it is classed as cruelty to animals and last night I told him I would be phoning the RSPCA first thing in the morning and reporting him (I had no response to lodging the complaint through their website). He proceeded to tell me that i… Continue

I hate people who are cruel to animals

My housemate has just tried to desex his male cat himself by typing a rubber band around it's balls. As far as I'm concerned that's not on so I went to the RSPCA website and reported him. I told him I would and he didn't believe me. He's now trying to get the cat out from under the house.

I got so upset when he did it. I think I get more upset when I see people cruel to animals than I do when people are cruel to each other. It's something that I really really hate and am passionate about stoppi… Continue

Yep, finally decided to do it...

Change my name that is. (I bet you were thinking something rude...lol).

I've been thinking about changing my name for most of the year. My name does not represent who I am now. My name was given to my by my Mother. My Mother and I are currently astranged, although I'm hoping that will change in years to come.

I've decided on two names. One will be my witchy name, that I use on the forums and any writing, pagan crafts, etc, I do. The other will be my new legal name. Both names will be connected… Continue

Popping my blogging cherry...

So, i'm completely newb-ish at the art of blogging. I had a live journal once, a long, long time ago (back when life had me in fits of laughter at every turn, and therefore worthy of publicising =/)... but lately i've been yearning for an outlet. Life's not throwing me so much comedy anymore; but i guess my small tragedies are equally worthy of public viewing... even if it's to have someone else to laugh at them.

Okay. So i've moved town; was in Melbourne, now in Bendigo. It's a nice place, as… Continue
