madmouse we did the camping at christmas and christmas dinner could be a cold salad as no cooking with fire restrictions etc but we didn't mind, the only time we had traditional xmas was with one side grandparents or at my great nans but still just a family gathering but when camping it's a group of friends, my family has never been big on religion except my grandfather, we are as we are and nobody judge's each other.

When I was a kid Christmas was magic in my eyes. Heaps of gifts yes, but the magic for me was the rituals that were formed, like visiting all the oldies that had somehow become part of our family circle, mums hunting cake, watching my sister decorate the tree, visiting the boulavard to look at all the decorated houses and of course checking out the Myers window. I did'nt have the best childhood but Christmas back then was something very special and Iam really glad to have those memories. I agree its all about consumarism now and that is a crying shame. I watched a special on Ostari this year and it was about a family who travel to the same camping place each year and follow the same rituals each year it was so encouraging to see them celebrate in such a simple yet perfect way. I hope when I get grandkids that Iam given the opportunity to share similar events to this with my grandchildren. It takes all the focus on spending money right bak to basics and it all becomes about family. To do this I need to start now so that the ritual continues thru the generations. Iam looking forward to the challenge.

i believe each to there own, we all choose our own path and if people choose to do both so be it that is there choice, it is hard with kids when u don't want to influence their choices, and everyone else celebrates things that seems normal to others, it's all commercial now so there isn't the meaning in things for xtians just seen as days of giving to the kids, without my influence my son tells everyone he's pagan, i grew up in a family were we give but never celebrate the religious side, as a child i would have told u easter is giving eggs only nothing more (fairy tale) and christmas was for giving presents with another fairytale that started with a man who gave to the needy, and i agree xtians did take allot of pagan celebrations n twisted them for there own

Chris, Easter was originally pagan, just like all the Christian holidays. They were all pagan celebrations. The church took them over way back when they were trying to convert all the pagans in Europe before the burning times. Look at the Christmas tree. That was originally the Yule tree.

BTW, Madmouse, I do see anything wrong with wishing someone Happy Easter. It was originally our celebration anyway. And no, it doesn't make you any less pagan.

I recently experienced a situation where I sent a message to my friends on this network wishing them a Happy Easter. I did not intend to insult anyone however it has been pointed out to me since that it is an insult and a very unpagan/wiccan thing to do. The friend in question has explained why she has such strong feelings about the subject and I respect that. However I was quite suprised at the fact that this person became so hostile over such a simple mistake(one I will not make again). Iam not christian, catholic or anything else that reveres a one God aspect. I was never baptised, but my parents used to send me to Sunday school. My kids are not baptised either. I would prefer for them to sort out their beliefs on their own without any pressure from me. I have more respect of nature than I will ever have of any religeous establishment and follow thru accordingly. It has been stated that I can'nt be wiccan/Pagan because I sent the email saying Happy Easter. Iam learning that hostlity and intolerance exists in most religions even this one. Iam not willing to give up my beliefs because of someone elses perspective. I will continue to honor the seasons, the trees, the earth and the Godess as this is what works for me. If you consider this unpagan then I'm sorry maybe I should not be here. Thank you for sharing your thoughts regrding this matter.

lol Cameron.

I'm a new pagan, and an ex-Christian. I spent most of my life in the church. Mostly Baptist, but my parents did send me to a Catholic girls high school. It was torture for a tom boy who wanted to do wood working and play cricket with her brother and his friends.

The way Christians see Pagans goes back to the Burning Times, and probably before. They realy believe what they have been taught for all those years, that Witches worship the devil and they sacrifice goats and all that sort of garbage. Now they are scared of us because of the lies that were made up so many years ago.

Then you get Christians like me. I don't consider myself a Christian anymore. But I was always very open minded to what other people believed because I believed (and still do) that you can learn from everyone, no matter what they believe.

It's sad that a few lies told all those years ago are still being believed. But it is up to them if they want to find out the truth or not. All they have to do is ask us.

BTW, I'm very firmly still in the broom closet. Only my house mate knows that I'm now pagan.

But I feel freer than I ever did as a Christian. It's nice to not have to grovel to God about how bad you are and how much you need forgiveness.

Ask me anything about Christianity and I'll explain it if I can. There are lots of similarities.

Brightest Blessings
Jomo

Blessings Minxi & Nettie,

I will not elaborate as not to keep the issue ongoing ( I really would rather not continue to fuel the fire ) but I have had complaints in regards to some more personal comments.

Frances

I have not been around much of late because ...

I have been working on my very first book in an attempt to have it ready for publication in the new year. However it is an extremely slow process when full time work, organising an active coven and all my other responsibilities often take precedent ... but I am getting there slowly.

What is amazing me is that I have still been able to keep on top of my other writing commitments with Insight magazine - http://www.insightpublishing.com.au/ as wel… Continue

~ November 2009 ~

Readers and Travelers alike have probably journeyed to The Cosmic Cauldron Newsletter since the Ocotober issue appeared, scratched their heads and wandered away wondering when the November 2009 issue was going to appear.

I apologise profusely for my tardiness to inform and for the lack of publication.

Due to the Staging of The Druids Dreaming Event and Dragonfly and my Wedding the Day before, I found I did not have either the time or energy t

Bealtaine Magickal Retreat

A selection of photos are in the process of being uploaded into the Temple's photo album of the retreat we held over the weekend, just prior to the commencement of the fire ban so we were able to have our bale fire.

Enjoy.

Some thing to think on

ALCIBIADES II
PERSONS OF THE DIALOGUE: Socrates and Alcibiades.

SOCRATES: Are you going, Alcibiades, to offer prayer to Zeus?

ALCIBIADES: Yes, Socrates, I am.

SOCRATES: you seem to be troubled and to cast your eyes on the ground, as though you were thinking about something.

ALCIBIADES: Of what do you suppose that I am thinking?

SOCRATES: Of the greatest of all things, as I believe. Tell me, do you not suppose that the Gods sometimes partly grant and partly reject the requests which we make… Continue
