THE TRUTHS AND TALES
ABOUT PAGANS
Pagans do not work with the Devil: -
In fact they do not have a Devil / Satan or
any concept of an all-evil deity in their
religion. Earth based religions are based on
the balance of all things and view the God
and the Goddess equally.
A Pentacle/Pentagram is not a symbol for
evil: - A pentacle is a five pointed star
surrounded by a circle. This represents the
four elements Earth, Air, Fire and Water
and the fifth is Ether, being the spirit. The
pentacle is an amulet and a symbol for
protection. In some traditions it is used
inverted to show differing degrees of
initiation.
Heathen and Pagan: - These names are not
something to be ashamed of. Heathen means
dweller on the heath, and Pagan means one
who lives on the land. These terms only
became popular to describe followers of the
old religion, as the new religion was only
followed in the large towns and in the Royal
Courts. The continuation of the old faith
was with those who worked on the land and
retained contact with the God and Goddess.
Witches do not practice evil- Many
believe in two laws that guide all they do.
The three fold law where everything you do
returns to you three times good or bad in
this lifetime
(Similar to Karma), and the Wiccan Rede
“An it harm none, do what ye will”. This
includes yourself.
Witches do cast spells- In Witchcraft a
spell is a thought, a projection, a means of
achieving a desired affect, and differs little
from prayer or meditation in other religions.
They are not used for evil or to do harm.
Pagans are diversified: - Pagans come
from all walks of life: police officers,
nurses, doctors, teachers, lawyers etc. You
never know, your next door neighbour may
be one! Paganism does not discriminate
according to colour, race, creed or sexual
preference, as all are equal in the eyes of the
God and Goddess.
A Warlock is not a male Witch- A Witch
is a Witch regardless of their sex. In the old
traditions the male was called a Wicca, and
the female was called a Wicce. Warlock is
from a Scottish word: “worloga”, meaning
“deceiver” or “traitor” and was applied to
anyone, who during the Inquisition or the
“Burning Times”, gave away the identities of their fellow coveners.
