Paganism Australia

Ive been doing a bit of digging in the Australian Cesus on our Gov web site [yes I was looking for some thing else and got side tracked]
Now the Australian Gov in Whats call Whole groups
Lists Theist [mostly Christin /islamic] at 58% but only 11 % of those are listed as regular church going ie more than once a year the weekly rate is 7% if you add christian and Islamic with a few others together to get that high and can get to 7.5% if you add some others Including Satenists and a few others
Now of the rest the non-theist yes pagans /Wiccans/athiest we are about 20% of the pop
Then you have the last group the will not reply
after ringing and asking this group it Thought to be made up of a mix of I do not Know [ have not made up there mind yet] and the just will not tell you at just over 10%
Add to this the Athiests in the groups has been more or less the same % for the last 50 years but the Non theist group as a whole has grown by 25% in the last 10 years and 50% in 20 and is the largest growing group by % in Australia
interesting ill see what you thoughts are O all Numbers are Australian Gov Census 2006

i actually think most pagans/witch's etc will not admit on census as if the burning times start again they have our details (they say private n confidential yeah right) it is sad we do this but safety first, yes i put pagan but nothing more or less when i filled it out, a survey about a year ago i think on allowing us to be recognised as a religion, a few told me in person they won't fill it out for there protection as they felt it may be so they have records of us and they may hunt us down 1 by one, it is sad how society still controls our lives and we can't be free, i see the census as a crock and think some numbers are changed, in life i don't know even 1%that go to church regular and i find most aren't christian these days they see the church for what it is (to me a true christian will follow there religion not follow someones translation of the bible) we all have our paths may every one be respected as the others are, the reason for the numbers also rising in 06 was they had just decriminalised witchcraft etc so the numbers would be greater today, more are coming out of the closet and out with the besoms, blessed be )O(
ps who couldn't love a path of the beautiful goddess(s) & god(s) who sees us all as beautiful, and love of nature as we too are a part of the earth.

well said MW
I always put 'pagan' on the census form for my entire family, I believe that the more of us that stand up to be counted the better we will be accepted by the broader society and the better represented we will be in the law.
Like my bumper sticker says "Pagan and Proud"

Yes Ive a feeling that we will find that in the next census Pagans or at least Nontheists will be very well represented and if the trend keeps up we as of the last 50 years Nontheists will out number Athiests and combind be about 5o% of Aust pop well we will see

i hope we r more than that lol then people will notice and maybe more awareness for those who don't know the name of there path etc BB)O(

I think the time will come but more so over the next 20 years part of the problem is so many are still hideing and for some it will be there kids that open up so yes the next 10 to 20 years should be a interesting time
Though I think The USA is 50 years behind but canada and the uk about even with us plus some of others ie Germany/France are may be a little ahead of us here in Australia we will see over the next few years

The Saga Continues....

Well, the RSPCA Inspector came about an hour ago now. It took 10 minutes to wake BJ from his hidy-hole next door. They've taken him down to the vet.

Grant got home about 10 - 20 minutes after they left. He went off his nut. I told him if he hit me or got aggressive with me I would phone the police. Once again it was all my fault. He reckons he can get BJ back, but that isn't an option. He tried to phone the RSPCA office but they are shut for lunch, so he has gone down there.

Basically he has t… Continue

An Update of the Cat

I've managed to have a good look at BJ and the rubber band issue. It really does need to come off. He's a wriggler so I'm going to wrap him in my quilt and hold him down while I take it off. It's not done any damage that I can see.

I keep telling my housemate that it is classed as cruelty to animals and last night I told him I would be phoning the RSPCA first thing in the morning and reporting him (I had no response to lodging the complaint through their website). He proceeded to tell me that i… Continue

I hate people who are cruel to animals

My housemate has just tried to desex his male cat himself by typing a rubber band around it's balls. As far as I'm concerned that's not on so I went to the RSPCA website and reported him. I told him I would and he didn't believe me. He's now trying to get the cat out from under the house.

I got so upset when he did it. I think I get more upset when I see people cruel to animals than I do when people are cruel to each other. It's something that I really really hate and am passionate about stoppi… Continue

Yep, finally decided to do it...

Change my name that is. (I bet you were thinking something rude...lol).

I've been thinking about changing my name for most of the year. My name does not represent who I am now. My name was given to my by my Mother. My Mother and I are currently astranged, although I'm hoping that will change in years to come.

I've decided on two names. One will be my witchy name, that I use on the forums and any writing, pagan crafts, etc, I do. The other will be my new legal name. Both names will be connected… Continue

Popping my blogging cherry...

So, i'm completely newb-ish at the art of blogging. I had a live journal once, a long, long time ago (back when life had me in fits of laughter at every turn, and therefore worthy of publicising =/)... but lately i've been yearning for an outlet. Life's not throwing me so much comedy anymore; but i guess my small tragedies are equally worthy of public viewing... even if it's to have someone else to laugh at them.

Okay. So i've moved town; was in Melbourne, now in Bendigo. It's a nice place, as… Continue
